"For me, there is no boundary between fun and work, I guess I 'work' all the time, but I do not consider it work. I am having too much fun." -Tomoaki Nagao, designer.

The history of BAPE goes back to 1993. That year, Nigo (Tomoaki Nagao) the designer and founder of the brand, decided to open a single shop called Nowhere with his friend Jun Takahashi. The brand, named after both the film “Planet of the Apes” and a Japanese method of bathing, was mostly inspired by a mix of Japanese cartoons aesthetics and the love of hip-hop. BAPE reached more popularity in 2001, after the collaboration with Pepsi and Pharrell Williams, a great friend of Nagao.

MUST HAVE FROM THE BRAND:
Whatever you are buying from BAPE, it has to have the classical pattern. Nothing is more recognisable of the brand, more than a sweater/hoodie with the camouflage pattern.
